Friday of the 23rd Week in Ordinary Time

Luke 6:39-42

“Can a blind person lead a blind person? Will not both fall into a pit?” By asking these questions, Jesus stresses the value of a clear and moral vision in life. The person who has not learned the correct way of living could not possibly teach another about the moral life. Moreover, the person who does not practice the moral life, even if he knows what is right, could hardly lead another because of his bad examples.

If we wish to teach or lead another person (spouse, child, friend, or neighbor) the moral way, we need to possess a clear vision, spiritual and moral. What are we going to do to acquire such vision? Jesus is the best moral teacher. We have to know his person and his teachings by reading, studying, and reflecting prayerfully the words of the gospel. We also can acquire good vision by listening to the counsel and teachings of righteous people. Thus, it is highly advisable that we go and make friends only with people of good moral standing.

Today, we are greatly challenged to develop the virtue of knowledge of the moral life because it is only through this that we can know and teach the right path that leads to eternal life.
