Wednesday of the 22nd Week in Ordinary Time

Luke 4:38-44

Disciples should try to emulate the three things that Jesus do in today's gospel. First, Jesus gives healing to sick people, one of whom is Peter's mother-in-law. Every Christian is called to become a healer so as to provide cure and comfort to people who are sick in body and in soul. Only few of us are medical doctors or physicians, but each of us is capable of providing strength, hope and support to people who are burdened by illnesses.

Second, after Jesus worked hard to heal the sick, he goes to a deserted place in order to pray. His busy ministerial life could not stop the Lord from finding time and place to converse with his Father in heaven. Every Christian should also be prayerful. In prayer, we will be reminded that everything – our life, family, friends, talents, work, material wealth, vocation, etc. – come from God, Without God, we are nothing and we can do nothing.

And finally, when the people of Capernaum tried to stop him from leaving, Jesus says: “To other places I must also go because this why I am sent.” For Jesus, accolades from acquaintances and comfortable life should not stop one from fulfilling his mission. Every Christian is called to be inclusive and universal in loving. He is going to share God's love not only to his family and friends but to all people he encounters because they also need to feel God's great love for them.
